Holiday!
Posted by smedley on May 1st 06 14:23:56
I've finally got some time off work. The girlfriend has buggered off for a week with her mum on holiday and I'm already bored.

To cheer myself up, I've been doing come cooking. I had a mad urge to cook something with rabbit so have a look at slow cooked rabbit with white wine - actually really good.

I've got some mutton cooking very slowly with white wine and oregano as I type this which I'll add some diced vegetables later. Typical of the simple (but great) food you get in Greece.

In the fridge I've mutton marinating in redwine, herbs and garlic for tomorrow.

I really must put on "Indian Fish'n' Chips" that I had friday as it's fantastic.

Well, it's Bank Holiday Monday, I don't have work tomorrow so I'm going to head up the pub for a few pints!

Catch ya later

Some new recipes
Posted by smedley on Feb 19th 06 16:01:10
Yay! A few minutes free at last so I thought I'd pop on a few new creations.

I've been to Finland a couple of times recently on work business and one of the things I was keen to try was reindeer. I know, I know... how can I eat Rudolph and his chums? Well, I'm a rotter, thats how!

Anyway, it was fantastic. Not surprisingly, its like venison but has a texture like a good fillet steak. I had it first with a dark cranberry sauce which was perfect.

I've tried to recreate the sauce here and though I say it myself, its pretty good.

I also got around to posting my recipe for onion bhajees which are always popular with my friends and family.

Happy Xmas!

Finally some free time!

Off work for a decent amount of time at last so I've got some time to update the site a bit.

It was my girlfriends birthday just after Christmas and as part of it I cooked a really (tho' I say it myself!) excellent meal.

We took a trip of to The Food Hall, Mark's Tey as they have a good fish counter and the G/F insisted on a 'fishy' meal which was fine by me too.

I was very impressed with the Food Hall. They had a superb array of fish, meat and dairy products as well as a great delicatessen section. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

With what i bought, I cooked asorted roasted vegetables & olives (well, served as I got it fro mthe deli counter , giant prawins in a garlic sauce, a wonderful fish soup and finally monkfish and scallops in a saffron cream sauce with pasta.

I'll post the recipes when I get the chance.

If you live around Mark’s Tey in Essex, I'd recommend you visit it if you want to treat yourself.

Too busy
Posted by smedley on Nov 10th 05 22:48:26
God, it's been a mad one recently.

There's so much I wanted to post about but I've just had no time.

Work is mad, but good and it's taking absolute priority at the moment as it's what pays the bills.

I'm going to make an effort to do something at the weekend as I have much to write about my recent day trip to France. Yes, I know; a booze cruise! But... it was more like popping over to france for a very nice 6 course lunch with a bit of shopping (actually a lot!). A top day out but it will have to wait.

Of course, you are all still very welcome to contribute to this site and I'd love to try your tasty recipes out when I'm lacking inspiration and after something new!

Drinks & other things
Posted by smedley on Oct 10th 05 10:19:55
I've added a drinks section to the site. Completely slipped my mind that you can have recipes for drinks

What else? I've got a batch of recipes that I just haven't had a chance to type up. I'm getting around to putting on a string of recipes for my Indian Sunday roast which I think makes a fantastic change from the traditional Britsh one.

Like most people I seem to be a very busy chap these days and just don't seem to get the time to a) come up with something new and tasty to eat and b) update this site as much as I'd like.

I intend to do a re-design of the Online Cookery Book at some point making it more recipe-centric now that there are a few on here. At the moment, I think the OCB looks a bit too much like a forum site, rather than a dedicated foody site.

Of course, this along with everything else is limited by my available time so it will probably be a while

I'm back
Posted by smedley on Sep 16th 05 13:12:48
Back to the the chilly old UK

Had a great time on Lesbos. It's a lovely island with wonderful friendly people.

We stayed in Anaxos, a little over 20 mins my bus from the bigger and very pretty town of Molyvos. Anaxos is a tourist resort mostly but it is a relaxing and nice place with plenty of decent restaurants and friendly bars. No lager louts and perfect for a slobby beach holiday!

I ate loads and loads as you might expect. Some old favorites and some new ones.

Courgette flowers stuffed with cheese was one new one and lovely!

To extend our way too short holiday, I'm having an entire weekend of Greek food so I'll be posting the recipes for Kleftiko, chesse Saganaki and gyros in Metaxa sauce providing they come up to grade!
